December 2008
On December 6th, the teen program had a jewelry making workshop. We made earrings, keychains and bracelets, both for ourselves and to give as gifts. To make jewelry at home, you'll need these supplies: pliers, wire cutters, beads, and findings. (Findings are necklace clasps, earring backs, and the like.) Hobby and craft stores sell special pliers and wire cutters, and while those are useful, they're not necessary to start beading on your own; any pair you already own can work. If you are interested in beading on your own, check the sale papers often; beads can be on sale for as much as fifty percent off.

A week later, we held a holiday-themed "Teen Coffeehouse Night." Attendees brought a "cheap and tacky" gift, such as an old toy or a funny mix CD, and we traded gifts by playing musical chairs. We also decorated our own gingerbread house (pictured at left.) Teens regularly make use of the regular library features during coffeehouse, such as internet access and the ability to check out media items. Drinks and desserts are also always provided.
