Library Corner March 1, 2009

The construction at the Library continues to move along.  Soon the new addition will be done and books will be moved into the new space while construction and rehabbing the current building will begin.  The new addition will include the new lobby and entrance for the Library.  There will be a new meeting room that will accommodate 100 people.  This space will be available for non-profit groups in Bradley County.  There will be new bathroom facilities as well as a periodical reading room in the new expanded space.    The Reference Collection will reside there and a new space for young adults will be on the second floor.  All this will allow for our current fiction and media space to spread out and  move into the other areas of our current space.  The FOLA Used Book shop will be located in the current Children’s Library once everything is in its new place.

The Carmichael House which is currently being renovated will house small study rooms, a small meeting room, a story time room, a homework helper room, a Children’s workroom and office space for the Library’s Foundation and FOLA.

As work progresses we will inform the public of any closings when material will be moved.  Unfortunately parking is still a problem due to the construction site and equipment.  We are looking forward to the day when construction is over and only patrons fill our parking lot.  Please exercise care when coming to the Library.

The Teen Advisory Group is accepting donations for a fundraising yard sale now through Friday, April 6th.  Proceeds will support the summer reading program and other TAG related activities.  All items should be brought to the Children’s Department.  Call Kimberly at 716-1165 for any large items or for further information.

The Bookmobile will be making its neighborhood stop on Tuesday, March 3rd at Cherokee Hills Apartments off of Bates Pike from 6:00pm until 7:00pm.
